PELO

PELO is an action developed at the Museo La Neomudéjar by Alberto Monreal and Lucía Sombras, exploring the connections between #aesthetics and #knowledge. The project was sponsored by La Fura dels Baus and carried out in collaboration with the Fine Arts Degree Program at URJC.

The origin of the piece lies in the personal experiences with hair shared by Alberto—who hasn’t cut his hair in seven years—and Lucía, who has lived her entire life with alopecia. Beyond our personal meaning of hair as something that enters and exits the head, much like knowledge itself, the piece opens up to historical interpretations of head-shaving as an act of empowerment, purification, or humiliation. It also explores connections with religious mysticism, feminism, and ideological radicalism.
